Newburyport Awarded Grant To Plan Indigenous Peoples Place
The Daily News of Newburyport reports the city was recently awarded a $2,000 Essex Heritage Partnership grant for fiscal 2026. The money is designated to support work on a plan to establish an Indigenous Peoples Place on the central waterfront.
Part of the funding will be used to provide modest stipends and honoraria for intertribal Native cultural consultants who will advise on the planning. The grant will help pay for initial planning and consultant compensation as Newburyport explores creating the waterfront space.
