Haverhill Dedicates First Nations Park and Honors Shortnose Sturgeon

Haverhill dedicated First Nations Park Saturday, and city events during the ceremony highlighted the Atlantic shortnose sturgeon.

The sturgeon species has been traveling up the Merrimack River to spawn in the area now known as Haverhill for centuries, and the dedication acknowledged that longstanding connection. Larry Spotted Crow Mann, who is a member of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc Tribe of Massachusetts, attended Saturday’s ceremony.
