Community Archiving Event Planned At Georgetown Senior Center
Organizers plan to host a community archiving event at the Georgetown Senior Center, 51 North Street, on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendance is free and open to people with ties to the Georgetown community.
Visitors are invited to bring up to three original items for digitizing, have photographs taken and record stories on video. Organizers say the collected photos, documents and oral accounts are intended for inclusion in UMass Boston’s online archives to support research and preserve local history. The program is produced by Mass Memories with local partners including the Georgetown Historical Commission, Georgetown Historical Society, the Senior Center and Peabody Library, co-sponsored by the Patricia C. Flaherty ’81 Endowed Fund and supported by Awesome Georgetown and other donors. The Town Common published the notice, submitted by Amy E. Smith; Georgetown historian Dan Meader is quoted about the value of photographs and memories.
